Who Made FIFA22's Team Of The Year?

21.January 2022 by Calum Walker

Every January EA Sports unleash a new set of Team Of The Year cards on FIFA Ultimate Team.

But which 11 players made the cut this year? Keep reading to find out who got their hands on a sacred TOTY card. Or go here to customise your own!

FIFA22 TOTY Goalkeeper

No surprises here. Gianluigi Donnarumma's heroics at Euro 2020 were definitely the biggest goalkeeping story of 2021. After all, Donnarumma helped his nation to two penalty shootout victories in the semi-final and final.

His reward? A FIFA TOTY card with a boosted overall rating of 96. Belissimo!

FIFA22 TOTY Left Back

The left-back spot in FIFA 22's Team Of The Year goes to Man City's João Cancelo.

The Portuguese star has been an absolute menace since Pep Guardiola starting using him in a more attacking role. For his efforts, Cancelo gets a FIFA22 TOTY Card with a flashy overall rating of 94.

FIFA22 TOTY Centre Backs

Slotting in at left centre back is Cancelo's team mate for club and country, Ruben Dias. Dias was nothing short of a revelation in 2021 as he won the Premier League in his first season in England. Dias makes a worthy addition to this year's team with a massive overall rating of 97.

At right centre back, we have the brilliant Marquinhos. The Brazilian didn't manage to lift Ligue 1 or the Copa America last year, but he did play a big role in PSG's run to the semi-finals of the Champions League. He makes the FIFA22 Team Of The Year with an impressive rating of 95.

FIFA22 TOTY Right Back

At right wing back, we have Marquinhos' new Paris teammate Achraf Hakimi.

The Moroccan star actually played most of 2021 with Inter Milan, where his goals from wing-back helped them to the Serie A title. This won him a big money move to PSG and he's definitely picked up where he left off.

FIFA clearly agreed and have given him a TOTY card with a rating of 93.

FIFA22 TOTY Midfielders

The first midfield slot in FIFA's Team Of The Year goes to Man City's Kevin De Bruyne. KDB had a couple of injuries in 2021, but it didn't stop him from playing a key role in Man City's season.

Not only did he win another Premier League title, he also scored 3 goals in the Champions League knock out stages. That was enough for a place in the team and a TOTY card rating of 96.

The next midfielder in FIFA's team of the year shouldn't surprise anyone. After all, Jorginho played a huge role in winning both the Champions League and European Championships in 2021. As well as a bunch of silverware, he also picks up a TOTY card rated 97 overall.

No surprises here either, as N'golo Kanté makes another appearance in FIFA's team of the year. Chelsea's French starlet spent 2021 adding a Champions League to the Premier League and World Cup he already had. N'golo makes the team with an overall rating of 96.

FIFA22 TOTY Forwards

Kylian Mbappé's 2021 started with an outrageous hat-trick at the home of Barcelona. And while he didn't quite hit the heights we thought he would in the Euro 2021, he enjoyed another electric year. There's no doubting his place in this XI, for which he gets an S22 TOTY card rated 97.

The spearhead of FIFA 22's TOTY attack is Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski. The Polish hitman scored 69 goals in 2021, a figure that put him equal with Ronaldo as the second highest tally in a year.

It wasn't quite enough for an elusive Ballon D'or. But it was enough for a place in FIFA 22's Team Of The Year - with the joint highest rating of 98.

Did somebody say Ballon D'Or? 2021 will always be known as the year that Lionel Messi left Barca. But let's face it, it wasn't a bad year for him on the pitch either.

Before leaving for Paris, Messi basically held Barca's season together in 2020/21. Before going on to lift his first major international title with Argentina in the summer.

That was enough to get Messi a seventh Ballon D'or in December. As well as a 98 rated Team Of The Year card.

Conclusion

So there you have it! FIFA22's Team Of The Year. There are definitely some big talking points in there. With the biggest one probably being the absence of Mo Salah.

The Liverpool forward is probably wondering what more he could have done. But to be fair, he does face huge competition in that position.

Do you think the team was fair this year?
